Molecular Analysis Facilty Tool

FTIR – Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS50R

Make/Model: Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS50R Research FTIR Spectrometer
Location: MolES G42E-4
  • Full Description

FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) measures the interaction of infrared radiation with a material to probe its molecular structure. The peaks in the spectrum are characteristic of functional groups present in the sample. The “fingerprint” region peaks at lower wavenumbers can be used to uniquely identify materials by comparing to existing spectral libraries.

Capabilities:

  • Polaris mid-IR source, DLaTGS detector, and KBr beamsplitter allow for optimal data collection in the mid-IR range (~700- 4000 cm-1)
  • Attenuated total reflectance (ATR) data collection allows for convenient analysis of small amounts of solids, powders, and liquids by directly placing the sample on the diamond ATR crystal without any extra preparation
  • Transmission mode stages available for thin samples and KBr pellets
  • VeeMAX III specular reflectance accessory (PIKE Technologies) for variable angle FTIR analysis
  • SST module enables advanced step scan measurements including time-resolved spectroscopy
